Standard Performance

Charli

too much has happened
and you feel so distant
you always said that if I need you
you'd be there in a minute
on my fingers I count blessings
on toes I count transgressions
strings attached to my fingertips
my marionette speaks of my confessions
it's too late to go back
to who you used to be
pushing forward through the thick mud
cause i can tell you how I fell
and still never receive your love
standing ovation
for a standard performance
I just wanted you as my angel
because I been told they're anointed
shoots fired he didn't make it
the blame placed on the opposition
I ain't gotta make this up
it's a war in the trenches
I walked in the dark to perform this
I dodged a couple shots
they keep 14 in the clip
because it's one in the top
standing ovation
for a standard performance
they put oil across my forehead
so as a tyke I was anonited
last autumn was different
here the leaves don't change
there seeing them go from green to orange
helps bear some of the pain
tears fall down the mask
they aren't allowed to touch his face
I asked for your love
honestly because you were my last saving grace
last call @ 1 am
can my stomach bear this tonic
if get polychromatic I'll most likely vomit
standing ovation
for a standard performance
can take a vacation
right now I need something foreign
a break from everything
maybe some days at minimal 3
the monster in the mirror
has learnt to communicate with me
I told my demons 5 more years
then I'll finally set them free
tears fall on the mask
of this masquerade ball we call life
moving to find someone we trust enough
to show our true face and make them our wife
standing ovation
for a what I thought was a standard performance
dancing with you on Saturn's rings
the night was quite gorgeous
