A Stint In Jail

A Stint In Jail

Breakfast was at 4 AM each morning

With boiled eggs and peanut butter

And after that was snoring

Each morning like any other

About an hour later

The TV came on again

And some took pencil and paper

To write their families then

Next chow was at 11 o’clock

With our Johnny sacks as food

And the bologna sandwiches we got

Came with green oranges too

At times we were offered rec

For inmates to workout

And there were basketball nets

But the basketballs didn’t bounce

Everybody in jail did their pushups

Everywhere they went

And their bodies they kept buff

With their muscles no accident

When our families came to visit us

We were thankful they had come

And the visits picked our spirits up

For several days to come

Our big day in court finally came

And we learned our future then

With some in jail the same

And others on probation again

A time of detention and incarceration is never forgot - an interesting view of behind iron bars.

Rehabilitation does occur in jail/prison. Some want to turn their lives around with a blank slate and forgiveness for past wrongs. Some really want to start over.
