Learning to sleep at night

Paris Margaret

Staring at the ceiling,
on a dark and dreary night,
when life has no meaning.
Thinking about all the beautiful dreams I could be dreaming.
Thinking about roses and daffodils swaying in the fresh breeze,
stinking of freedom.
Thinking about tall trees with bright red shiny apples,
falling to the ground just below my nobbly knees.

Sounding blissful as I lay here,
listening to the rain trickle.
My feet are freezing,
feeling like they have frost bite.
So I pull my duvet over my toes to keep them warm through the night.
When life feels hollow,
Just look out the window and think of all things fluffy and light.
There is no need to feel such fright,
about devils and scary nights,
as every morning there is always a sunrise and that my friend, is a beautiful sight.

  • Comment from author about the poem: When I was young I could never sleep at night. I would be scared and as i grew older my depression and anxiety was always dreadful on a night time. I have learnt to sleep by thinking of beautiful things, so I wouldn't think of the bad things. Also after all the dark the sun comes up and it is the most beautiful thing, as I always remind myself.
