Hopeful

sylviasearcher

Silence screeches across my window
Scarring my masked face
Endless reaches and rips my heart out
Leaving nothing in its place

Movement marches far from meekness
Washing me down stream
Where’s our river, where’s our ocean?
I’m lost inside your dream

I’m not sure if I am broken
Or what made me this way
Once upon a time you made me hopeful
Till hopeful lost its way

River rushes revealing reflections
But I don’t know my face
Aching fingers destroy the vision
Darkness, my friend and last embrace

I’m not sure if I am broken
Or what made me this way
Once upon a time you made me hopeful
Till hopeful lost its way

Sinking deeper beyond the waters
Dirt sinks in my skin
Don’t you see that hope is hopeless
We’re fighting for nothing

I’m not sure if I am broken
Or what made me this way
Once upon a time you made me hopeful
Till hopeful lost its way

I’m not sure if I am broken
Or what made me this way
Dig me from my grave and make me hopeful
Or kneel and mourn and pray
‘Cos hopeful lost her way

  • Comment from author about the poem: So, my friend posted a video of him playing a piece of music he composed on the piano and I joked that I wanted to write songs for him but didn’t know much about music. He told me to just have a go. So I did. It’s very much a first draft

The chorus appeals as it has musical undertones - and my favourtie verse is - -- River rushes revealing reflections
But I don’t know my face
    Aching fingers destroy the vision
Darkness, my friend and last embrace. It could be a fine soulful number with a bit more tweaking Sylvia - at least in my simple opinion that is.

Thanks, well I handed it over to my musician friend to tweak, he thought it was good for a first draft.

I think you kind of need to hear the music it is as written for.

      To be honest I’m
Secretly hoping he might sing it for me 😳
