Do you remember the girl you called fat?
She hasn't eaten in three days;
I heard her making herself sick,
but people say it's just a phase.
Do you remember that boy you called weird,
because he was quiet and shy?
I think he wrote a note yesterday,
telling his mother he wanted to die.
Do you remember that couple you called abnormal,
because they were the same-sex and holding hands?
I heard one of them got killed the other night,
because people like you don't understand.
Do you remember laughing at that elderly lady,
when you and your friends played a dare?
I heard she has cancer now
and struggling for air.
Do you remember that single mother?
who you mocked for being poor?
I heard her children are in foster care
after she got caught taking food from a store.
Do you remember that man you beat up,
for being accused of attacking his wife.
Turns out she attacked him
and threatened him with a knife.
So when you drop a comment
remember it leaves a mark,
some more prominent than others,
some more hurtful and dark.
When you think you know something,
it may not be all it appears.
Everyone is human
everyone has tears.
Try to understand
and do not jump to conclusions,
do not condemn a single person
to a lifetime of seclusion.

Jayde,
This is a great write! It is relatable and it resonates louder than a tsunami warning siren! It clearly reminded me when I was excoriated and belittled on this very MPS site without just cause!
Your words to heed by one and all...
“ When you think you know something,
it may not be all it appears.”
Thank you for this exceptional and true write! I hope everyone on this site reads it and reflects upon its message!

That is very kind of you to say Laura! Thank you for taking the time to read and visit!
You’re welcome, Jayde!🌻
An excellent list of reasons for thinking before we speak - - you composed this poem with such good metre and rhyme - am saving it Jayde to my faves for more reads.
