Animals In The Cold

Animals In The Cold

That morning it had snowed

With a blanket everywhere

So soft and white but cold

In the November air

Some chicadees were searching

Upside down and high

And woodpeckers were also working

On trees encased in ice

The countryside was silent

Except for crows that cawed

And the sun was Heaven sent

So the ice would thaw

The squirrels were not climbing

But trying to stay warm

In their hollows and hiding

From the ice that had formed

Overhead were some geese

Honking as they flew

With the weather clear at least

For a day or two

And we saw some deer

Lightly crunching on the snow

And they swiveled their ears

Before they had to go
