Rainbow

The dying sun tries its best to smile through clenched teeth

The storm has passed but has left a depression deep in its core

From the weeping chakras the earth seeps a colourless rainbow

Beads of acid droplets singe the sky with colours from deep below

Each rotation of the loop in which we are stuck

Repeats a cycle of mayhem where love is now just a word

Broken people exist but no longer live

Hopes & dreams fall like grains of sand through a corroded sieve

Gainsboro, light grey, silver & jet

Illuminate the atmosphere into a darkness we would rather forget

Crafting an image of mirk, pollution, smoke & regret

Gainsboro, light grey, silver & jet

Illuminate a dreary sky trying not to fall to its knees; heavy & sad

Crafting an image of a desolate world gone slowly mad

The once joyous honey bee no longer buzzes full of energy & zest

But grumbles along draining thistles of its disease & virulent poison

Trees arc towards the barren & lifeless ground of brittle ash & dust

Statues of heroes & buildings of magnificence now crumble into rust

Each rotation of the loop in which we are caught

Repeats a cycle of mayhem where hate is the only word

Broken people exist but no longer breathe

Hopes & dreams replaced by death; nothing else left to believe

I bow to the rain & accept my fate

The darkness is coming & it won’t be late

I close my eyes & feel the pain

Because this world is dying & will never ever…

…be the same

    Unsub,

    A magnificent write, indeed!
    Personally...
...while reading your written words, I visualize of what is taking place globally! Not a “pretty” picture! Actually, it’s rather depressing!

      Laura,

I have Enda to thank for this one. He has written a superbly crafted poem about a rainbow & when he sent it to me I just had to try my own take on the same subject.

      Regards

      Unsub.

A great write Unsub and so very true.
It can be fixed but the people with the power and the money cannot see passed their bank accounts.
        I'll meet you on Mars.

I don't know where you have been lately but your return presents us with your finest.
Superbly crafted and so relevant to todays consumer led decaying world.
          A must for my favourites.

The desolation of this sinks beneath my skin, and reaches the greys in me. The descriptions of bleakness and lost hope are vividly described, bringing to life this lifeless place. Beautifully sad piece. I can relate to this feeling, and think it's pretty cool you were inspired by another piece and produced this.

                • Unsub

                  Santi,

it was Ziggy's piece about a much brighter rainbow that inspired the write.

                  Thanks for dropping in,

                  Unsub.

Damn, an amazing write. Loved the imagery. "weeping chakras" ...

                  • Unsub

                    Alta,

Really appreciate the poem; it was written purely because another poet wrote a happy light enthused poem about a rainbow so I thought I’d look at differently!

                    Many thanks

                    Unsub.
