Promises to Spring

Mirela Athanas

I woke up once and saw that it was Spring,
It felt as if I had been sleeping 100 years,
The world seemed immensely changed in everything,
Yet birds were singing and floret's sprouting yearned.

I started walking but couldn't breathe the scent,
The one that all in all nature's birthing brings,
I saw an awe of colors rose, flush and garnet,
Yet I alone felt walking in narrow paths concealed.

Prayed I the Gods of Universe,
Why did I wake up on this day
To see this beauty and converse
With you, but feel astray?

There was no answer whatsoever,
But then the narrowed path began to meliorate,
My every step a flower's blossom sheltered,
So I miraculously started to feel the scent.

I dropped on my knees and kissed the petaled flowers,
A wonderful aroma filled my lungs with air,
I felt alive again and my heart again with power,
Started I a dance of joy and ran to catch a flair.

One would imagine what happiness
A sleeping heart felt to be alive!
On my knees I fell again and promised:
"I make this promise to you my dear Spring,
This day I will not forget!
I will not wither or ever sleep in Winter time,
No matter how cold my feet or tired be my mind,
I will just rest but never sleep or whine,
Because I will have promises to keep!
This is the promise I make to you right now
I will always feel the fragrance of this kissing flower,
Well beyond the seasons set,
Forever in each step I take and in each hour,
The scent of them will always fill my heart.
And breathe I will, and breaths I will awake,
If only be that I remember is this day! "
