My Dog Tag

- NT

Soldiers.

They fight for us.

Some of them die for us.

Some of them give up so much that the only thing left is a silver ball chain.

This chain holds a dog tag which serves as identification. It has the soldier’s name, an identification code, blood type, and religion.

A soldier.

That's what I am.

I am fighting for everyone.

Not for a country, but for a cause.

I am part of Tzivos Hashem, The Army of Hashem (G-d).

My weapons are Mitzvos (good deeds), Tzedakah (charity), and Tefillah (prayer).

I am part of the army fighting against all the evil inclinations lingering inside us.

We are dispelling darkness with the light of our good deeds.

I too have a tag.

Mine too serves to identify.

But it does so much more than just that.

It reminds me who I am, who I am fighting for, and how to keep on fighting.

“Be courageous because Hashem G-d is with you”.

Each soldier in Hashem’s (G-d’s) army knows this.

He is with us through all the ups and downs.

He is with us in the good times and the bad.

Knowing that He is with us helps us get back up again.

He is with us all the time.

He is with us anywhere we may fight.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I am Jewish, and since I was younger, I've been taught that I am a part of G-d's army, Tzivos Hashem. I've been thinking a lot about the army lately, especially since two of my cousins and two of my friends have joined. I suddenly realized that I too am part of an army, and I thought I would like to share that with you.
