Kite Flying Contest
Our kite flew very high
And we knew we would win
But others in the sky
Flew higher than us back then
We tried to be good sports
And congratulate the winners
But 3rd place was a failure of sorts
And we felt as if beginners
Third place should have been enough
But our pride made us want more
And to our ego’s it was rough
That others had out performed
Maybe it was the wind
That flew their kites higher
So that gusts had been
The reason they were better flyers
We concluded back then
It was the fishing line we used
And if we had used nylon string
We would have flown clear to the moon
