This Brief, Well-Writ Rime

The Swarthy Bard

This rime that flows and rhymes
    must throb with rhythmic time
to the beat and the chimes
    of each line on the dime;

it must have lines and rows
    that move with good meter
to feet of highs and lows
    that's nice, tight and neater;

it, too, must be well-writ
    with not so subtle song
that ev'n people hear it
    in homes where they belong.

    (Alas!—now more or less)
'Tis time to end this rime
    with a farewell address:
"Adieu! Another time?"
    I ask—so please say yes!
