Of Old Chartered Walks.

kevin browne

Of old chartered walks, we took.
Each turns a chapter into books
Country coloured lanes, birds flock.
Sit and sway when you cut a crop.

Fields grow seasons, hedges smile
of old water ponds far beyond a mile.
When moles in holes it's hard to see,
but with life's diversity in bumblebee.

Catch me conkers, catch me a cab
past a waterfall and a wash to have.
Sunflowers spring into autumn now
Pick a Violette, but do you know how.

Those walks we took broke the stone
It took some time, but we built a home.
Where the grass is greener on this side
When Apple fell, it fell with pride.

And, if you throw a double one
I'll pack my bags, and I'll be gone.
But, if you land a four and six
I'll pack my bags and take a risk.

Cause you're a man who needs a drink
to say hello, a nod and to have a think.
Sat at the bar pulling beers all day long,
then thought of beers that made it wrong.

But, if you hit a double 2 or four
I'll pack my bags that's for sure
If you end up with a dual 1 or five
I'll pack my bags then duck and dive.

And, a travelling man who sat one day
thought he was 10 and wanted to play.
So, the birds, bugs and the dragonfly
made him laugh, love and goodbye.

Lorry trucks, motorways and traffic light
give way to the people they see at night.
With flashing lamps and lonely tramps,
police call in to employ wheel clamps.

Now, if you can score a double seven
to work it out after it's half past eleven.
The final bell, out the door and pissed
beers so lonely, its never to be missed.

Of old chartered waters, we sailed away
On boats of glory that sailed every day.
In storms of seas which we swam from
dreams washed, and now they're gone.

Come back trees, let's climb the lot
I'm on my way, on my way to the top.
Kissing couples fall in love at the end
when they come together, love sends.

A trick to floor a double eight,
so don't be sure or I'll be late
If you hit a double two or nine
take the cash to buy some wine.

I'm off to the countryside and lanes
where there's nothing to hurt again.
Peace to weather and Sunny days
in my heart, and that's where it stays.

THis is a fun and joyful read with some darkness which i havent fathomed out. But there's reminiscing in there too. It feels like a song you're singing to yourself as you go off away for a break with a twinkle in your eye for theres a chance of love in the air.
