There’s a Red Rose in England that wants to be watered,
But we are too tough for it,
We say, we cannot refill the can right now,
We are too busy running around.
There’s a Red Rose in England that wants to be watered,
But instead we get confused by too much choice,
Giving birth to twins, division and dissatisfaction,
So, the English Rose that was once so feared, has become a punchline,
That has been laughed at many times.
There’s a Red Rose in England that wants to be watered,
But we are too tough for it,
We say, we have bigger fish to fry, who cares if you die?
We’ve got to get out of this hole, that you are planted in,
We ‘re the grafters, we move around, instead of you, you’re stuck in the ground.
There’s a Red Rose in England that wants to be watered,
But we should be soft for it,
Surely such a great emblem, should come back in to vision,
So, the can could be refilled, to revive our hearty flower,
To gives us back the power, to reclaim some much needed sense,
Instead of ignorant consequence,
Hence, can we get Brexit out the way, and water our Rose that wilts,
As this is our nation’s symbol, but it’s clearly nothing to us right now.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem is the second poem I have, that pays homage to the poetic gem: Bluebird by Charles Bukowski. Red Rose is about the fragility of the UK's state at the moment, and the fact we are loosing a sense of global identity, by prolonging a damaging charade. Hope you enjoy.
