Who's A Good Boy?

I’ll give you an example, of how a dog is more capable than man,

A simple task of retrieval, is what I have in plan,

Throw a stick for a pooch, and he or she will return it,

Thus, if this was a video game it’ll say “Stage Complete!”

But turn it all around, and a different story’s revealed,

Let the mutt toss the twig for man, it will remain in the field,

“High” and “Mighty” human, will say “why should I fetch?”

Exuding all the human traits, that would want to make you wretch.

Again, if the stick is flung for a human, nothing will be done,

For man may have to make a “Focus Group” for much needed reflection,

They’ll ask “Is the stick safe? Is it useful? Will it help?”

A wonderful farce of a scenario, that would want to make you yelp.

Perhaps the guy or gal may be game, and would finally run after it,

But they’ll examine the piece of wood, and say “nice bit of kit!”

Instead of returning the branch, they may go off to sand it down,

To make a sturdy door stop, and then sell at market for a pound.

All in all, with the above options, I think it’s fair to say,

That man would finish dead last to dog, on such a fateful day,

Perhaps a dog should be in office, perhaps human’s ship has sailed,

As for the act of fetching, for a human it is “Mission Failed!”
