Short & Dear (+3)

Kurt Philip Behm

My life,

  dumped onto paper

My love,

  deep in the beer

The years,

  a fateful mirror

With time now short

  —and dear

(Memories Of The Main Point: November, 1972)

         ‘Dinner With Jerry Jeff Walker’

Pick Your Poison

Booze—Broads—The Bible,

  which poison will you claim

The one that numbs, the one that thrills

—the one your soul to shame

‘Captain Tony’s, Key West: June, 1971’

Back To Thee

Let me take you on a journey,

  to a place inside yourself

Not the body mind connection,

  but true consciousness itself

Before you walk a darkened space,

a light must first go on

Not tasked with anything other than,

  an awareness set upon

Your eyes look out, true vision in,

the stuff of what you’re made

Before the questions were unleashed,

  one answer left unblamed

So close your eyes and close your mind,

   and set your spirit free

The path aglow from whence you came

—that leads you back to thee

(Dreamsleep: June, 2019)

Yours Alone

Transcendence—reality,

  the power to choose

The physical burning,

  the spiritual hue

One leaves you ashen,

  the other alive

The choice begets freedom

  —yours alone to decide

(Dreamsleep- June, 2019)

    Kurt,

    Very interesting postings today!
That dinner with Jerry Jeff Walker must’ve been interesting!

The first line was from him, and I think he stole
      it from Kerouac.

After his performance at The Main Point, he came
back to my apartment. I lived upstairs.

Over the three years I was there, everyone from
Bonnie Raitt to Springsteen to Richie Havens to
      John Denver performed downstairs.

It was a legendary place. I tried to buy the building
several years ago, but was outbid. It looks just like it
did in the 60's & 70's. I'd love to turn it back into a music
      venue.

      Kurt

        That’s a great line!

Must’ve been an interesting three years at that legendary place!
Too bad you were outbid! Is it still a venue for performers?

        Does the order matter?

        Btw...
Is there a barstool at Captain Tony’s with your name on it?

Just some blood left on the underside of one of them.
