Robin, Robin
Red-breasted Robin
Where were you hiding?
How did you know I was there?
You appeared at the first stab of my spade
Into the crusted soil
You were waiting like a Vulture
Anticipating I would reveal a taste of juicy worm
You are a solitary hunter
Confounding the adage
That birds of a feather flock together
Perhaps there is a mate; a Robina?
To share your life
Or do you live alone?
They say that your red breast
Symbolises the blood of Christ
I hope that he protects you
But he can’t protect the worms as well!

Ahhh what a lovely image and tribute to the welcome robins....... I believe the UK robin is smaller and more delicate/sweet to look at than the US bird (who is still a happy harbinger of spring!)
Thank you Lorna .... I didn't know that there was a USA version and that he is larger ... Does he feature on Xmas cards as on UK?
Sometimes yes ....... here he is if this will open: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiA873G6NDiAhVUqp4KHdr6CCkQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.phipps.conservatory.org%2Fblog%2Fdetail%2Fbiopgh-blog-american-robins&psig=AOvVaw2IUNjpA_6DLIHs1M8-bUwB&ust=1559771702570360
The UK robin is a really brave little bird and seems less afraid of humans proximity than most species.
The blood of christ is just another stupid thing the christian churches made up and used to be able to get away with before the 'flock' were an educated lot. The 'flock' used to follow every word like sheep. I suppose they are still like that in the bible belt though.
Thanks for taking the trouble to respond ... I agree that historically the church has exploited people's fear and vulnerability.
