Time slides away like a ghost,
Your soundless confession suspended
In the silent seconds between
Breath and need - searing my
Soul with all the heat of communion.

Speak, breathe - make me real
And keep me human.
Strange how we can be so
Crowded by emptiness.
The sun sinks behind us
In the flaming western sky,
And the blood rush pounding in
My head leaves me dizzy
And desperate for
Rapturous numbness.

Some things are certain;
I am naked in my need of you.
We stand bound by blood and pain,
And I am laid open by the simple
Downward cast of your eyes.
