In County Jail

w c

In County Jail

Never did I foresee

That I’d be on probation one day

And never did I believe

That I’d eat jail food with some mates

My family were all fine people

And law-abiding all the time

Going to church and fearing evil

And never committing crimes

After church was fried chicken

Delicious with potatoes creamy

And from the table tried to listen

To our favorite football team

Players were always in the news

For breaking a law of some kind

And in jail anew

But soon out on bail each time

I was not a professional athlete

And never feared going to jail

And believed I’d never need

A lawyer to represent me well

Then one day it happened

And I found myself behind bars

Where I drank some hooch

And played dominoes and cards
