It’s A Dangerous World

Gary Edward Geraci

‘Less chaste fun

I hasten to run

Hollow pictorials

Follow to rise

Count and prestige

But do press

“Mute” to shelter

Moot to shield

  • Comment from author about the poem: “It’s A Dangerous World” is a poem dealing with the temptations to purity that we face on social media; a holy purity that Christ asks each of his disciples to live; a purity that is continuously assaulted on social media. While we may be “moot to shield,” we can still master an offensive struggle: “’Less chaste fun“ (‘Less = unless) then RUN and “”mute” to shelter,” using the mute feature to hide offending content, are strategies that a Christian can employ while trying to engage with others in a Christ like way. As authors, evangelizers and disciples, building our follow count with a diverse group equates to building prestige in this culture: “Follow to rise count and prestige”. But “Hollow pictorials” are the kind of photographs that reveal a woman in ways that only her husband should see and there is a determined will to spread the stuff; I perceive the demand must be great and so one must engage a worthy defense strategy. Although moot to entirely shield one from the dangers to purity that lurk within the vast collection of photographs and pictorials, should we fail to guard our eyes properly and be led into sin, as Catholics, we can then go to Confession and begin again. God’s love, mercy, and grace will sustain us. My poem is written in “cynghanedd” style and a burst of four short couplets.

I've got lost in some of this! lol.
I say to people: 'Man up - take courage! The only dangerous thing you gotta worry about is me singing!' heehee.

The paragon of manhood is Christ and not the corpulent sweaty guy in his underpants sifting through his illicitly gained collection of young female pictorials like a stack of baseball cards. Come to the defense of these - see them as they truly are - sisters, daughters, mothers, wives - children of God and then you begin to “man up” brother.

And that’s another part of the defense strategy Orchidee: always see behind the pretty picture - the “hey” the “how’s it going” DM that follows - always see behind it the corpulent sweaty guy in his underpants trying to get to your wallet -
