Death’s Sleight of Hand

D. K. Heqet

Silence swept through the swinging trees

and slithered down the spines of all their leaves.

As the lingering oxygen began to evacuate the scene,

a veil of mist sunk into the ground with a scream.

Absorbing into the trunks of the trees and all that be

watched as they fell down in misery.

In succession they crumbled and curled into depression,

with their knees to their chest, in balls of emptiness.

The sinister sight of the sound of sickeness

stole the souls of the innocent, stringing them in to dissonance.

Though through their deaths it gives light to birth,

as their rotting flesh seeps and sweats, soiling the Earth.
