the clattering pace of coming stillness

Jon Nakapalau

seems to have set the pace on the track
we must all race on, and it is the distance

that seems to change always, as if there
are door hurdles that are locked;

slammed upon those who run
to win most earnestly - yet should be near

enough to see that the finish line
is drawn in tears.
