Standing Alone (+6)

Kurt Philip Behm

Can you have

without owning

Can you embrace

what’s on loan

Can you give

without taking

Can your love

—stand alone

(Villanova Pennsylvania: August, 2019)

Contraband

Do you play inside the Corn Flakes,

or are corn stalks more you game

Is that Hersey Bar the answer,

or the cocoa or cocaine

Do you clerk for someone’s feelings,

inspiration to be damned

Your legacy an afterthought

—another’s contraband

(Grantham New Hampshire: February, 2017)

Only What Is

You can’t alter reality

with an opinion

You can’t alter reality

with a drug

To alter reality,

you must force away time

Defining the indefinable

—leaving only what is

(Grantham New Hampshire: February, 2017)

That Look Remains

There’s a look…

That look

In a persons eyes,

When they’ve

Transcended

Nationality and race,

Social position

And wealth

In silent visits

They come to pray,

Their bodies

No longer

Controlling their spirit,

But that look,

That look

—remains

(Villanova Pennsylvania: February, 2017)

Lost Bondage

When meaning becomes enslaved

by abstraction

—your Poem is lost

(Villanova Pennsylvania: March, 2017)

Heavenly Sham

With every religion…

to share in the blame

Masking out God,

in costumes of shame

Seeking to own

what they can’t understand

A covetous folly

—a heavenly sham

(Villanova Pennsylvania: August, 2019)

My Hear To Rest

While not belonging anywhere,

beholden then to none

I spread me seeds upon the land,

and let my spirit run

I cast my lot into the air,

direction, fate be known

And far beyond prevailing winds

—my heart to rest atoned

(Villanova Pennsylvania: March, 2017)
