IF I COULD SING

Thomas J. Dooley

If I could sing

It would be only in my dreams

If I could play a tune

It would be sweet as the flower's nectar in June

If I could dance

It would be to a funky beat to knock everyone off their feet

If I could take the stage

It would be a pedestal of confidence

With a great sound and flash of light, It would cause a wave

If I could wear what I want

It would be the kind of fashion

That would put every New York designer to shame

Looking so good intimidated everyone in the room

If I could I would want to do it all

It would be for the love of the art

The creativity that only is coming from the heart

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is part of a collection of poetry called PURPLE NOTES; it is poetry inspired by Prince. He caught my attention on a music video show call Night Flight that aired on TBS during the '80s. He was my alternate artist after Michael Jackson, my taste gravitated between the two of them, but after graduating high school, it became just Prince.
