The Missing Name

woodkatie28

I have seen this face before

amongst many nameless faces

Every time I look

and I see this face

in a mirror,

I catch a glimpse

of recognition

A glimmer

of a former self

my former self

Someone I knew

not so long ago

People call out my name

but, I do not respond in time

And when I do,

they have moved on

to someone else

I try,

try to get the words out

before they disappear

But, my mind

is much slower than what it once was

I see the frustration in your eyes

but, please may I remind you,

I get frustrated too

Do not ask me a question

and expect me

to answer right away

please be patient and wait

for I know the words

But, they are just a bit slow

to come forth

Do not treat me

like I'm a stranger

I am still me

Just not the me

I once was

Beautiful. I wonder did you write this about yourself or a loved other?

A very moving read for anyone close to an ageing or unwell person.

I wrote it based on a storyline from a TV show
