AN OAK TREE IS A WONDERFUL WORLD AND A PERFECT SHELTER !
Last week I sheltered under an Oak Tree
From the rain ! I looked up and saw a whole .......
New World ~ which really stirred my Soul
And had a lasting *AWE* effect on me !
I saw a World of Branches and of Leaves
Spreading out as far as eye could see
Such a perfect habitat of sheaves
Spreading out each side and down to me !
Many insects thrived inside those branches
Dragonflies & Butterflies each has a perfect perch
The Birds & Bees my hungry eyes entrancing
As through the Branches for more Life I search !
The Whole World in an Oak Tree ~ what a sight
I vowed ~ protect Old Oaky ~ day & night!
But one fine day there come the AXE-MAN
With his CHAIN-SAW ~ more hated than the TAX-MAN
And so I stood my ground ~ placed barbed wire all around
And sang an old refrain ~ that came to me !
An ancient ditty that my Mammy sang to me
About a Slippery Elm Tree ~ Woodman spare that Special Tree !
Go chop an ASH an ELM a PINE
But save OLD OAKY there ~ that*s MINE
From many a storm He*s sheltered me
WOODMAN just for ME ~ please save that OLD OAK TREE !

They used to fell oak trees to build warships... I even heard a story that the New Forest in U.K. was planted for that purpose.
Nowadays of course we have many green issues in our hearts and i will stand with you to protect an oak tree.
Beyond this my recent 'pure as driven' takes in the issue of protecting our wonderful planet, our home, from the everyday abuse of the mindless.
Excellent poetry from you with a noble theme.
YES INDEED DA ~ Pleased you enjoyed the presentation ! Plants and animals work in symbiosis ! The plants breath in CO2 and breath out OXYGEN and animals breath in OXYGEN and breath out CO2. The problem is the number of Animals (and Humans) is increasing and the number of Plants is decreasing ~ this together with burning fossil fuels etc means CO2 has increased from 250 ppm to 415 ppm causing Global Warming etc etc ! When will we ever learn ~ When will we ever learn ??

One of the most disturbing things about deforestation is what has been happening in the amazon rain forest. There they are clearing thousands of square miles of forestry to create land upon which to breed cattle... but WHY... the answer is really sick.... because of the demand for beefburgers!!! I have seen people point the finger at Mac D but they're only catering for demand.
With you all the way to protect these glorious trees dear duo.
THANKS FAY ~ Brian here ! This started out as a serious Poem then I remembered my Dads record of Phil Silvers so it became more humerous towards the end. However the message is the same WOODMAN spare that Tree for the Planet Earth !

A fine write B&A. They'll come and take me away though, if I start worrying about poor old trees left outdoors over chilly nights. We can't bring them indoors lol. Well, only bonsai trees.
Thanks UNCLE STEVE ~ Pleased you caught the drift of the Poem. In my answer to DA I mentioned the synbiosis between the Flors & Fauna in maintaining for thousands of years the equilibrium amount of CO2 in the atmosphere @ 250ppm. This in turn maintained the ambient Earth Temperature @ 15C ! Because the CO2 is now 415 ppm the ambient temperature is now 16C and rising causing the Ice Caps to melt etc etc ! So every Tree (of all species) is mega special !
