The Truth About Love

she_was_torture

Love.

A word with endless meanings.

Love can be infinite

And it can be cold.

But without love,

What do we have?

How can we function and live our lives?

Sometimes we can't.

Our love pulls us by the neck and keeps us under the water.

It ignores our cries for help

And pleads of angst.

No matter how much we thrash,

Love's hands don't stray.

By the time they let up,

We're soaking,

Pulling and tearing at our skin,

Wanting to rid ourselves of the thing we call love.

Sometimes love deceives us.

It puts on a mask and dances for us,

Holding up signs that read

"Hunger" and "Sickness."

And we believe it.

We dance along and sway,

Heading into the trap no one gets out of.

Our stomachs ache and we say,

"Time for food."

But what if it isn't?

What if it's our bodies telling us to get out.

To recognize the signs before we end up shattered.

Because it sucks.

When you know you can't and will never have the one thing you've craved for your entire life.

The one thing that brings you joy for hours,

That makes you smile with one thought

And cry with one look.

That realization that nothing will ever be the same without them.

Because no matter how many breaths are cut short,

No matter how many times your heart bursts into burning acid flames,

And there's nothing left but meaningless ash,

That's what love is.

And love finds us all.
