my mother’s eyes

mayaicar

Don’t cry,

with the thoughts, don’t comply

See, I look into my mother’s eyes and try

To help her understand what goes on in my mind

because her thoughts are similar to mine, but they’re not the same,

I cause her all this emotional pain,

there’s no one else but me to blame

I think every time she comforts me and says my name.

Because when you look into your lifeless mother’s eyes

It’s a heartbreaking sight.

You forage for the light that was there before,

Instead you find a desolate, burning forest, formerly luscious and green, now dark and obscene.

Mother, accept my apology,

My brother and I ignited something magnificent in you

And used that to kindle our own blazing fire,

But the difference between our forest and yours,

Yours is a forest home to all kinds of beauty,

slowly burning away,

Ours, the giant trees leech the water from the soil,

The ravenous animals rival to survive and everyone is an enemy.

Mother, I am sorry once again,

I want to give you hope and light, not stress and strain,

Keep your head up even though your heart’s heavy,

I love you mum and I haven’t said this already.
