Single Story

SheWasTheSun

Once upon a time

You were my single story

They'd tell it, they'd try

Their hearts full of worry

They'd say

On Mackenzie Drive

She lost her mind

A sweet love turned sour

Just at golden hour

A tragic plight

An endless fight

A downward spiral

A sad poems pile

A tattooed tear

Another lost year

That poor girl

Trapped in his cruel world

You were all I was

Everything was us

The good, the bad, the great

I stood, I sat, I stayed

Through it all, you were it

No matter what you did

And so I melted into you

They saw us stuck like glue

But it's time for a new tale

One where she prevails

A book of light and grace

Of brightly colored days

It's time for golden hour

It's time for her tower

Once upon a time

She wrote her own story

They read it, they cried

At her love-fueled fury

Life and love are stories that at some point we have to take control of and rewrite our own narratives.
    Good write!
