Pray For The Prey

Bragee

Nightmares about my own death to the point where it's no longer scary.

Hail Mary,

Not Catholic but that'll save me before my concealed carry.

Can't sleep anymore, I stay tossing and turning!

Shot by cops in my dream and wake up with my whole chest burning.

Steady learning,

America isn't the best place for me to survive.

I'm the stereotype of a man they want dead rather than alive.

I used to joke saying I'd die running no matter the situation.

Never expected I'd be hunted by guns ready to blast with no hesitation.

Mama listen...I haven't done anything but they're still coming to get me.

Don't react in violence just promise to never forget me.

Remember me as more than just another piece of meat on the streets,

But please tell America to bless its food before it eats.

Just Pray for me.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The overgeneralization of human groups in America is an ongoing issue that people refuse to address. We can believe that not all dogs bite but we can't comprehend that all African Americans are not thugs, all police officers are not racist killers, all Middle Eastern people are not terrorist, and so many other stereotypes that ruin whole races in America. Like who you like. Don't like who you don't like. Im just tired of innocent people dying for it.
