Astro Turf

Astro Turf

Astro Turf, getting on me nerves

Killing everything that lives on the earth.

Green mat of death, stifling all breath

Suffocate the hell out of the life that is left.

“But I’m so busy…I can’t cut my lawn”

Got to go to the gym and increase my brawn.

Don’t be an idiot, get into the swing of it

Cutting that grass is better than the Gym innit!

Astro Turf, getting on me nerves

Killing everything that lives on the earth.

Asphyxiating butterflies and smothering the worms

Killing all the beetles; beating up the ferns!

“I have friends’ round, it’s so convenient”

So is Napalm you psychopathic deviant

There’s nothing right about carpeting the world

In plastic greenery, delivered and unfurled.

Astro Turf, getting on me nerves

Killing everything that lives on the earth.

Toxic avenger, fatal to all

Things that hop, scuttle, slither or crawl.

“But I’m in Greenpeace, I have a subscription”

Well let me tell you you’re lacking conviction,

No human being, no ‘Friend of the Earth’

Would lay a sterile substance in which nothing can give birth.

So, rip up all your plastic and plant a wildflower meadow

Life can thrive in grass; keep the plastic just for Lego.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A silly poem about the evil that is plastic grass. Should be read in a ridiculous rhythmic way whilst bouncing around.
