Life is usually equated to that;
It is usually because 'Light' is perceived as something positive;
Going up and down...like 'Light and Dark'
Hue, gradient, saturation, softness, sharpness;
Terminologies.

I guess that with sight being our prime sense and the ability to use our sight in light rather than dark then light has gained it's popularity.
