Mayan Mayhem

Gary Edward Geraci

I took a tour of a Mayan

Temple and this teenager was

Torn up by the turn of the guides

Telling of the events; groaning

For the loss of the indigenous

People’s right to heave humans off

The top of the stone towers. Even

More groans when he learned it was those

“Damn, colonizing, Catholic

Spaniards” whom converted those poor

Souls, killing their temple culture;

Teaching Christ which all pointed to.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Indeed, these sentiments were the ones I overheard during our recent vacation to the Yucatan Peninsula! To be certain, however, the very three words I exclaimed after climbing the heights of one of these ancient structures: “Jesus is Lord!”

    I was about to build a Tower of Babel, but I though best not to, in view of past events!

  • Gary Edward Geraci

    Everything we build will come crashing down in the end, O, including my minor catalogue of word arrangements - but He will continue to exist as He always has. I put my trust in what He has revealed to us -for those who will choose to follow him: eternal life. And for those who will not: eternal damnation.
