Ode to the Sunflower

de Suin

Thou sunflower in a deserted plain
O'er thee the mighty sun precipitates;
And one may, wanting to retain thy gaze
Befriend the devil knowing what entails.

Of sand and air has thou made my despair
Oh belle, a muse who in Greek times remains
Though only mind. Environment unfair
Thy pearly grandiosity it pretends.

Although owner of robust intellect
Pretends a blindfold thou to ever wear
And care little to thyself protect
From all the drought beseeching thy glare.

Oh sunflower in a deserted plain
Through living, learn to kill amounting pain.
