Setting sights on freedom of speech
To take it out with verbal bullets
Opinions backed into corners
Mouths like guns
Cock it and pull it.
Shoot the one who thinks for themselves!
Bury the thoughts of the critic in the open.
Strap them to a legal definition of thought
And take away the words they’ve spoken.
Have they forgotten?
It is the original law of this country
To let us speak as we wish to speak
But generation after generation
Attempts to make the defenders of this law seem weak.
Preaching over society with their own critical vomit.
Yet telling others that they can’t share.
All the while brewing up distance and separation
Among the people, widening a political, personal tare.
