Preparing Prompts

Tune: Merton

('Hark, a herald voice is sounding')

Malachi 3 v.1-4 & 4 v.5-6

*********

The LORD's messenger he was sent

John Baptist, he cried, Repent

Came to prepare way of LORD sure

To bring His reign evermore

He messenger of covenant

The gospel unto us meant

To show good news of salvation

Unto each, every nation

He John did come, and did refine

As 'second Elijah' fine

Repentance preached, that's God's people

Righteous offering to Him be

So may we turn to you, our hearts

Seek to know you, in all parts

Paths made straight, forgiven, restored

May we follow you, our Lord

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7. metre. The original hymn is sometimes called 'Hark, a herald voice is calling' or 'Hark a thrilling voice is sounding'. Well it won't me be then - unless my singing is 'thrilling!' heehee.
