Benedictus Blessings

Tune: Forest Green

('O little town of Bethlehem')

Luke 1 v.67 - 76

***********

'Benedictus', hear words of worth

Spoke at John Baptist's birth

By Zacharias his father

The Spirit did him stir

To prophesy, to say, Blessed be

[The] Lord God of Israel, see

For He has visited, redeemed

His people, they esteemed

He raised up strength of salvation

True unto each nation

In house of David, His servant

His messenger He sent

As He spake by holy prophets

Since world began, befits

Them to tell of His promises

And of each sure confess

That we from all our enemies

Should be saved, He does please

To save us too from our foes hand

Who hate us in this land

To perform the mercy promised

His choice, He does insist

Mercy promised to ancestors

On us too nw confers

He does remember His holy

Covenant, pure it be

Thus oath He to Abraham swore

And does carry out sure

That He would grant unto us, we

Be delivered, and be

His own, saved from enemies here

Might serve Him without fear

Serve Him in holiness, righteous

Before Him, He shall bless

Us all the days of His life for

His promise kept e'ermore

And John Baptist shall be prophet

Of the Highest, way lit

For mankind to prepare for when

Jesus would soon come then
