A Chance to Say Goodbye

daydreaming

I stare at my ceiling in complete silence
As I desperately wait for the morning daylight
When the night takes over my room
It reminds me of the days I endured
I was living in darkness ‘til the day I found you.

The first waves of light blind me at sunrise
A disc of fire takes on the horizon
There’re actions, reactions and movements of people
It’s like watching a movie from my bedroom window
Why feel disconnected at times for no reason?

I’m letting my memories fill up the space
That your sudden departure gave away
I know you’re part of a spiritual world
I still can’t accept that you’ll never return.

You must be having the time of your life!
I see you jumping from star to star
You then dare to slide on the rings of a moon
After riding the tail of a bright shooting star
You suddenly stop just to see me smile.

My flesh won’t allow me to get where you are
You know that your absence will tear me apart
You must know the secret to let us connect
So why don't you tell me, I'll be on my way...

Show me a tangent point in space
Or mark the precise moment in time
If I see you clearly inside my head
How could we be so far apart?

Let your spirit cross into my world
Or let my soul leave my body behind
I’ll gladly give up on my physical state
Even if I never find a way back
I rather give up on my life as it is
If I get the chance just to say goodbye.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The poem attempts to capture the feeling one gets when we lose someone we love and wish we could see them for just one moment. Though the theme is somewhat sad, you will find a sense of happiness and joy in its setting. I hope that you can relate to it in some way based on your own experience.
