Fingers Crossed (+9)

Kurt Philip Behm

‘Wishful Thinking’

—where dreams go to die

(Dreamsleep: January, 2020)

Strangers Cry Out

Often, I have to challenge the words,

after they’re written

Often, I struggle to understand,

what the Muse is trying to say

Often, I have to cede the ground,

that buttresses my thinking

Often, the voices calling out

—are strangers to my ear

(Villanova Pennsylvania: January, 2020)

The Race

I’ve finally arrived at the point in the race,

where I reach for the baton

All up till now the moment served

—new life embarked upon

(Dreamsleep: January, 2020)

The Key

Is language the key to consciousness,

unlocking what we see and feel

Do words and thoughts when so defined

—make something other real

(Dreamsleep: January, 2020)

Married To The Voice

I’m wed to my Poetry,

betrothed to the fire

Each word an incendiary,

burned to inspire

My voice the rekindling,

fueling the scream

The ashes my trophy

—a smoldering dream

(Bryn Mawr College: January, 2020)

Heaven's Call

Can you talk of your experience,

or is language a gift recalled

Without a tribute, silence reigns

—you mute to Heaven’s call

(Dreamsleep: January, 2020)

Step By Step

Degrees of freedom…

a chance for control

The will to measure

—what choices extoll

(Rosemont Pennsylvania: January, 2020)

Fusion

Is consciousness a sponge,

that ever expands

Is consciousness a vacuum,

where potential commands

Is consciousness a gateway,

to something beyond

Our mind and our spirit

—a fusion lifelong

(Dreamsleep: January, 2020)

Outside The Moment

Consciousness can’t exist until you ponder…

‘what comes next’

Thinking outside the moment

—frees the verb inside the text

(Dreamsleep: January, 2020)

Higher Bred

Language builds a place to stand,

inside our own cognition

Each word confirms what thought instills,

in psychic recognition

Are you the true informant,

about what’s inside your head

1st person self awareness frees

—a nature higher bred

(Villanova Pennsylvania: January, 2019)
