The crippling act of conformity

ThomasMikaelson 15

what is a Shepherd without its sheep,

what is a prophet without its disciples,

what is a ruler without its subjects,

what are we without our social norms and conformity,

long i sit and listen, about being normal and dull, with all the social unspoken laws, are we all pawns on this unending board,

Is there a reason to this,or is it all a trick,

because I could never be,normal without being me,

so I continue to listen to this nonsense,

about being normal and “free”,

but how will i be free,

If I’m someone’s sheep,

Imprisoned in this pen,

of normality and blind faith .

  • Comment from author about the poem: I’ve been told all my life that fitting in and acting like a mindless zombie will get me through life ,but why would i want to stop being me to satisfy some old codger so I'm going to be me , no matter what anyone says or does , because when my life comes to an end i want no regrets

Be what you are and say shit to conformity. Yes, be brave enough to ask those questions which so far have received dissatisfying answers. Though you may not find the truth, at least you will have the satisfaction of knowing you truly looked for it.
Be strong in the self you were born to be.
