To my asd son

Middlearth

Your kids grow

as you watch you know

they will leave to a future

in which you can believe

but those that will always be young in their minds as well as heart

will not fly away their journey to independence will not start

they have a special place for us as we realise

they will always be our small ones whatever their size

whether they stay by our side

or they need a different place to reside

they always need us to guard them close

fight their battles as need arose

protect them in ways our others do not require

to help them reach as far as they can aspire

there is no letting them spread their wings

we cannot watch from afar as they achieve great things

we can hold we can keep safe we fight

To give them a happy life - it is their right!

and we worry - so much more

what will happen if we go before

and every smile, look maybe a word or touch

each one a golden moment means so much

we store these treasures away

pull them out to brighten a darker day

And for all the battles and stress

the joy from those moments will never grow less

We give you our hearts our energy sometimes our will to live

You take so much more than you can give

But we would do it all again for you forever

and we will over and over.

Thankyou so much - was hard to write and also a tribute to several friends who fight their own ASD kids battles
