A Letter for the Future (if there is one)

February 9, 2021 - Tuesday

More than 1 year since the Novel Corona Virus spread. More than half of the world's population was wiped out since the January of the year 2020. No one knows if these numbers changed. But one thing is certain, it won't stop hiking up. There is still no known cure for the virus. They said it is uncurable, so everyone was hopeless and no longer get the feel to find a cure. Hospitals are abandoned. No one's helping the infected anymore. Wealthy or poor, if you're infected, you're let alone to die.

Cities look like a scene from an apocalypse movie. Nobody expected that it'd get to this point. Abandoned cars. Dead bodies all over the place, supermarkets emptied when people started fighting over supplies. You can't barely see people walking on streets anymore. Everyone's hiding in their own places or underground bunkers just like this one I'm living in for about 10 months now. Ever since the virus was spreading rapidly, everyone find a way to isolate themselves from others.

Crimes are also increasing. Those who are infected and also those who are not took advantage of the situation. Malls have been ransacked, banks are robbed. But obsessing in money is no use in these times. They can bathe in millions of pesos robbed from the bank but what they posses is worthless in this situation. They can't spend it either. Face masks is more important now as the virus became airborne. You no longer need someone to cough or sneeze in front of you to get the disease because it is already in the air. That's why facemasks somehow became the new world currency. People trade supplies with these. If you go outside without wearing one, you wont last a minute and you'll be infected.

Broadcast stations closed and there is no more electricity. The last news we heard was on September of last year when almost half of the population already got infected. Since then, nothing. Communications were brought back way up to 3 decades ago when people used to carry out information in means of oral relay.

The whole town of Kiamba, the place i live in, is now a frown town. Valentines is coming but no reason to celebrate. Days are getting darker and darker for everyone. Everyone is miserable. Dead families, hungry, infected children lying in streets. I still remember when this illness sparked last year. Everyone still got the time to make fun of the outbreak, made memes, made the outbreak a laughingstock. But no one is laughing now. We only feel the emotion of joy everytime the military planes drop these metal capsules full of supplies. This is the way our government is feeding us now. But of course, competition is still there. Poor are those elderlies who can't fight over the supplies. If the virus can't kill you, hunger will.

Everyone's faith was tested. A lot of us don't believe in God anymore. Well in this situation who would? What kind of God will let this happen? But there are still those who do. Saying this is the holocaust the bible was talking about. The end of the world. But the way I see it, this is just humanity hitting rock bottom. The fall of our species.

Today, it has been three days since my food and water ran out. I've been continuously drinking my own urine to survive. I don't know how long I'll last. I used my last mask a week ago and started locking myself inside my underground bunker. Not long from now that I will need to go out in search for supplies. I'm writing this letter because I don't know if I will be able to comeback or I'll be just one of the pile of bodies the moment I step outside.

This letter serves as a time capsule. Telling what happened here. A piece of history, for those who will be able to read it, those who are from the future, if there is one.

Sincerely,

Tantan
