the struggle of a hopeless romantic in hookup culture

Hazel Kaye

'What are you looking for?'

'A man who sees galaxies

when he looks into my eyes;

who breathes life back into the fire within me

and is excited by the flames,

not afraid of them.

A man who will mumble my name

as he sleeps

and as it falls from his lips it will sound

as natural as breathing.

Someone to hold hands with

in furniture stores,

 to push the grocery cart

when my arms get tired

and who always remembers just how I like my coffee

on a Sunday morning.

A man who is not perfect,

but tries to be -

who sees his future as clear as if

it had already been

and I fit right into it

as perfectly as I fit into his arms.

And you?'

'Oh, I'm not looking for anything serious.'
