Hurt

Amanda Ricci

I was so afraid

As I held on tight

He told me to stay

To stay through a fight

He knocked me down

Down to the ground

I could hardly breathe

Nor make a sound

He left me there

I saw him grin

As the blood spilled down

Down my skin

I fell on my knees

I forgot how to feel

What’s the point

If this wound won’t heal

I saw a stranger

He saw me

He granted my wish

And set me free

He knew the signs

Of my endless hurt

Thanks to him

I’m not in the dirt

I thank him each day

He saved me

For I am here

Do you see

Please pay attention

Be aware

You can help

If you choose to care

Well written, Amanda. Unfortunately domestic violence is still much too prevalent, and too often the victims do not get any help.
