Beach.

Dysthymia

.

as kids we run and splash around

jump threw the waves

and play with the sand on the ground

teens start a fire

gather along friends

and the flames they admire

lovers go for romance

hold hand to hand

and grow their love for a chance

olders move slow

for a breathe of fresh air

and the future they don’t know

some come for peace

to get away

and stress to release

but every time we go

we enjoy every moment

as we all show

and every time we leave

we go on with our life

with a little less negativity we relieve

  • Comment from author about the poem: everyone has their personal thoughts or reasons of why they visit the beach and how they grew up around one. i didn’t want to offend anyone with this poem. for whatever reason you go to the beach, maybe there’s no reason that you do. i’m all for it.

I think you've covered a lot of ground in a succinct and positive way in your piece today. Always an uplifting visit where the ocean shows us natural forces and gives us such pleasure.

I love the way you weave lots of reasons for visiting beaches into this interesting read. Your final stanza sums up the whys in an encouraging way - for "every time we leave we go on with our life with a little less negativity " how postive and how true. Thank you for sharing this with us .

D, great poem. Being married into a Chinese family I have to say you forgot the 'most important' reason to go to the beach: FOOD. There is nothing better than the whole family doing a beach bbq pot luck!! Ah, and the boogie boarding, don't forget that. Loved your poem.
