The Boy

Gemma

I once knew a boy.

He had stunning blue eyes

that sparkled like the ocean.

He had curly brown locks

like his mother.

He was loved by everyone

who laid eyes on him.

We all made room

for him in out hearts

When we all heard of

his existence.

There never passed a day

when he never made us happy.

On his first day

of primary school

He made his father cry

for the first time

When he let go of

his hand.

The young man smile

Oh so bright on his prom night

And replaced his father's hand

with a girl's instead.

Only years later he knelt on one knee

and held out a diamond ring.

So we all watch him stand

at the end of the isle.

I had imagined this whole life for him.

Then the phone call came.

And all of a sudden he slipped away

As my mother cried in agony

While my father tried not to.

Dead at three weeks young,

barely in existence.

Still in my mother's stomach

yet causing so much pain.

He would never hold

his father's hand.

He would never

his first steps.

He would never

fall in love.

He would never

grow old.

I would never see my brother.
