THE RECENT POEMS ABOUT CROWS ~ Set Us thinking about MAGPIES (The Black & White Members of the CROW Family). We remembered the Nursery Rhyme *ONE for Sorrow - TWO for JOY* (see the visual). It is a Rhyme from the Oral Tradition and the belief that the number of MAGPIES one saw - was an OMEN for the FUTURE ! The Video is an excellent mournful version - by UNTHANKS - of the MAGPIE SONG on the JOOLS HOLLAND Show. The Poem is based on the SONG.
THE MAGPIE brings the News we*re cravin*
News that is both Fair & Foul
Shes much more cunning that the RAVEN
Much more wiser than the OWL !
Brings US News about the Harvest
Barley - Wheat & Oats & Corn
She knows the *Time of Our Departure*
And just WHO we will be Born !
Flies in from RIGHT - Good News She brings
Grief - when in from the LEFT - She wings
Of all the News She carries in her Breast
*NO NEWS IS FALSE !* and we are truly Blessed !
She sees Us at our Labour
She tweets Us at our Talk
She steals EGGS from Her Neighbour
She can out-mob the Hawk !
The OLD PRIEST says we are WICKED
Consorting with the Devils Bird
But We do respect the *OLD WAYS
And disobey the OLD PRIESTS word !
But the MAGPIES rest uneasy
As WE slumber in the Night
So please - leave a bit o* Meat & Cheesy
For the BIRD that*s BLACK & WHITE !

A fine write A&B. I seen so many, I forgot which number I'm on - lost count.
ANGELA HERE - Hi Uncle Steve - Yes they are a beautiful BIRD love the stark contrast between the Black & White. It not *BIRD WATCH* how many ones sees in a Day but *how many one sees at a time* ! So if I was preggers (which Im not !) and saw THREE it would forecast a GIRL - FOUR a BOY. Being Medievil you should kniw that ! I love MAGPIES they look @ you so cute & knowingly !
Blessings to You & Fido *Respecter of Birds ?*
