As I open my eyes underwater
After so long of holding my breath I soon realize
I can't hold my breath any longer
After I feel to heavy and too comfortable in too deep shall I say
I now know I must swim back to the top
To exhale the pain I kept in the center of my core
As it flows through my lungs
I feel a bit light-headed
I feel a bit numb
So dizzy I stopped swimming to the surface
I start to sink
I sink lower and lower until it gets dark
With closed eyes once more
Afraid to open my eyes
Thinking even if I open I won't see anything anyway
I lost sight of direction
And lost credence of my abilities
Lost faith in my decision making
I kept my eyes shut form fear yet
Still I have pain remaining in my lungs
I started to feel like it was the end
I knew I needed to exhale and breathe in
I knew I had to open my eyes once again
I knew I couldn't let the darkness devour me any longer
I had to take a chance of finding my way back up
To the surface
To fulfill my goal
To exhale all that has hurt
All that has done wrong for me
Even the things I felt most comfortable with
If they pain me I knew I must let go
I open my eyes and swim through the darkness
Not knowing for sure where I would end
Didn't know if I was swimming down or up
I swam to what I believed was the surface only on the strain of hope I had left
I swam until I could feel the air on my hand when I lift my arm above me
And soon as I thought my destiny was the darkness
I felt the air and the sun on my skin
I rushed to lift my head above water
I looked into the sky and exhaled
All that caused doubt
I have learned so much even though the event pained me
It's not always the end even when you're in so deep
You must exhale what disfigures peace
Do it for you
I did it for me
Exhale and breathe in deep
