She jumped into the car; smiles abound…
He was very grateful there was no one else around…
A bag of presents of so many things…
He simply didn’t know what to bring…
So many have told him, walk away now…
Its foolish to think you can, when Love must be avowed…
When she acts like this, he knows she’s mostly just known pain…
In the few moments they have, he hopes he offers her refrain…
Soon he will leave and as he goes over the bridge…
He will feel the pain as he knows, she will fall back over the edge…
Cuts and marks on skin she tries to hide…
He saw all that night they made love, then the lies…
Forever he will remember this day when she jumped into his car…
White t shirt, black hair. His breath short, her in his arms…
The love he feels for her he knows can't save…
But promises that this day, every year, he will kneel at her grave…
For the briefest of time, in the winter of 2009…
She was loved and knew what it felt like when someone was kind…
Everyday as he goes over the bridge, the tears begin to fall…
Then before he sleeps, he listens to her voice the last time she called…
Goodnight baby she said, I can’t see you tomorrow, please stay away…
He didn’t, and he saw what she did…and knew the reasons for her shame…
They can’t hurt her anymore...
God took her...and her pain.
