Poem, What are We?

What is evil?

Is it good that is just tortured by its own hunger and thirst?

Will good seek to fill itself in dark places of forbidden fruits becoming evil?

To lap up water from dark caves that are hidden from light that poisons?

Is it something we can recognize if foreign to us?

Is it something we can tolerate if we are good natured?

Is it that we can only see it if we are in some way evil ourselves?

 

What is Good?

Are we good when we strive to give freely to others?

Not to seek gain or pleasure for our own?

Does the root say to the branch give to me the way I give for you?

Does the branch say to the fruit give to me the way I give for you?

Does the fruit give freely of itself as the branch gives freely to the fruit?

Does the branch give freely of itself as the root gives freely to the branch?

Are we “good” when we give freely of ourselves even as we pay dearly?

For what we give, with scars on our mind & body!
