Paraclete Perceivings

Tune: Hawkhurst

('Come gracious Spirit, heavenly dove')

John 14 v.22-27

*********

Jesus did answer Judas, see

Though he not [Judas] Iscariot be

In reply to question asked there

That Judas did with Jesus share

Saying, Lord, how is it that you

Will show yourself unto us true

And not unto the world? and so

Jesus answered him, he did know

Said, If one loves me, they will keep

My words and shall be as my sheep

And my Father will love them too

We will come, bide with them anew

Myself, the Son, and Father too

Shall unto them this honour do

They that love me not, they keep not

My sayings, not done, and forgot

They be not my own words, but see

They of the Father, His words be

I speak these things while with you here

While I in person do appear

But the Comforter, Paraclete

The Helper, the Spirit, He meet*  (*suitable)

Sent in the Father's name will teach

You all  things, none outside His reach

And He will bring to remembrance

All things that Jesus has said thence

Unto us, His peace, He us leaves

Constant unto each who believes
